Most homeowners remember the big bathroom decisions: tile, vanity, countertop, shower and toilet. The smaller selections are the ones that often surface later, after the room is already taking shape.
Organizing those details early makes it easier to coordinate finishes and avoid last-minute shopping.
Shower and Tub Trim
Track the complete fixture set, not just the showerhead. That can include the valve trim, handheld components, slide bar, tub filler, diverter, drain finish and any specialty controls.
Glass and Hardware Finish
If the bathroom includes a glass enclosure, decide whether you want framed, semi-frameless or frameless styling and how the hardware finish should coordinate with the plumbing fixtures.
Mirrors and Medicine Cabinets
Measure the wall area above the vanity and decide whether you want individual mirrors, one large mirror, recessed medicine cabinets or integrated lighting.
Towel and Accessory Hardware
Towel bars, rings, robe hooks, toilet-paper holders and shower accessories are easy to overlook. Decide the finish and approximate locations while the rest of the hardware is being selected.
Lighting Details
Bathroom lighting may include vanity lights, ceiling fixtures, recessed lights or lighted mirrors. Identify the fixture type, finish and approximate size before the final electrical layout is set.
Ventilation
Exhaust ventilation is part of the room function, not just an accessory. Discuss the existing ventilation and any desired changes with the contractor so it is included in the scope.
Grout and Caulk Colors
Tile selection is only part of the finish decision. Grout color, grout joint appearance and coordinated sealant colors can affect the finished look.
Thresholds, Curbs and Transitions
Ask how the shower curb, shower entry, bathroom threshold and flooring transitions will be finished so those materials are not left undefined.
Electrical Accessories
Think about receptacles, switches, dimmers, specialty mirrors, bidet seats or other powered products you want to discuss. These can affect electrical planning if identified early.
Paint and Trim
Track wall color, ceiling color and any trim or door finish that is part of the project. A bathroom is not finished when the tile is done; the surrounding surfaces matter too.
